HST for NVR Gala / Mk3 Day Trip

Nene Valley Railway Diesel Gala – This coming weekend Prototype High Speed Train Power Car 41001 and 125 Group’s matching Mk3 coaches will be the Star Guests at the Nene Valley Railway Diesel Gala operating public passenger trains between Yarwell Junction, Wansford and Peterborough NV.

The event is planned to feature a wide range of visiting locomotives including D6836 (37905), 56006 and 56098, hot food and draught ales will be available including from on-board ‘Buffet 125’ in our RFM vehicle 10206.  The gala takes place over three days from Friday 8th April however the iconic HST will only be in service on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th April. Mk3s Midlands Day Trip – 125 Group’s prototype HST livery Mk3 coaches 11074, 10206 and 12092 are expected to have a day out on the mainline tomorrow Wednesday 6th April as part of non-passenger convoy 5Z07 1055 from Leicester Depot to Barrow Hill via Derby and 6Z37 1518 return. HST Transfer to NVR – Power car 41001 and our matching Mk3s are expected to depart for the NVR on Thursday 7th April as part of non-passenger convoy 5Z41 1034 from Leicester Depot running via Melton Mowbray (11/15), Peterborough ECML (1225-1227), passing from Fletton Junction over the link onto the Nene Valley Railway arriving Orton Mere at 1236.  As always, information is provided in good faith and all of these planned movements can change at short notice on the day subject to operational constraints, the trains may run early or late or be cancelled.

Marvellous Mid-Norfolk!

The Prototype HST Power Car and 125 Group’s matching Mk3 coaches have completed a marvellous weekend of passenger running at the Mid-Norfolk Spring Diesel Gala. There were many highlights, including photo-shoot run pasts at the picturesque private station of Hardingham, working with the MNR’s resident Mk3 and Mk2 coaches with electric train supply from 41001, a trip to the current northern end of the route at Hoe and the unforgettable Saturday evening run on which 41001 hauled a combined load of six Mk2 coaches and three class 50 locomotives, working the classic Valenta power car harder than ever!

41001 and the Mk3s are today (Monday 4th April) leaving the MNR on the next leg of their Spring tour, bound for Leicester then onto the Nene Valley Railway. The HST departed from Dereham at 0615 as part of a convoy hauled by top’n’tail class 50 locomotives, running as 5Z50 via Wymondham (0722-0726), Ely North Curve, March (08/44), Peterborough (09/04), Oakham (09/36), Leicester (1028). High Speed Train Prototype Power Car 41001 and 125 Group’s matching Mk3 coaches 12092, 10206 and 11074 have arrived safely at the Mid-Norfolk Railway, following transit from their home base Ruddington GCR(N). They will be taking part in the MNR’s Spring Diesel Gala this weekend, working passenger trains on Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April.

Highlights include 41001 hauling the longest rake of Mk3 coaches in Preservation, special run-pasts at Hardingham station, ‘The Breckland Fryer’ breakfast trains, plus many other diesel locomotives including no less than three English Electric class 50s. Come and experience the Prototype HST fitted with the original classic Paxman Valenta engine, bringing to life the sights and sounds of the 1970s. Prototype HST Norfolk Bound

Prototype Power Car 41001 and 125 Group’s Mk3 coaches have been given a wash and brush up at their home base of Ruddington GCR(N) and early tomorrow (Thursday 31st March) will be heading for the Mid-Norfolk Railway to take part in their diesel gala this weekend.

The HST will be departing from Ruddington at 0645 to Rushcliffe Halt where an ensemble of English Electric class 50 locomotives will meet up and haul train to Leicester Depot with schedule 5Z50 0910 Hotchley Hill to Leicester. After some shunting 41001 and the matching Mk3s will depart as part of the convoy heading for deepest East Anglia, running as 5X50 1210 Leicester Depot to Dereham via Oakham (1305-1326), Stamford, Peterborough (14/02), March, Ely North Curve, Thetford and Wymondham (1549-1554).

HST Ready for Spring Visits

The Prototype High Speed Train Power Car and our matching coaches are ready for their exciting Springtime visits around the UK. 41001 and Mk3s 11074, 10206 and 12092 have been undergoing routine maintenance and examination at their home base of Ruddington on the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) and are ready to go on-tour.

Mid Norfolk Railway  –  Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd April 2016    The very first away visit for 41001 and matching three coaches is to the MNR Spring Diesel Gala where they will be the stars of this diesel traction packed 3 day event, working passenger services through the beautiful rolling Norfolk countryside between Wymondham Abbey, Dereham and Hoe. Highlights include operation with the MNR’s own Mk3s making a set of 5 similar vehicles, Saturday and Sunday breakfast trains plus on Friday very special calls at the private Hardingham station complete with run-bys passing the splendidly restored signal box – remember to wave to the signalman! ‘Buffet 125’ will be open for refreshments and hot food at selected times. Nene Valley Railway  –  Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th April  2016    We are pleased that 41001 and Mk3s are planned to visit the NVR Diesel Gala, operating passenger services between Yarwell, Wansford and Peterborough NV on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th only. St.Philips Marsh Open Day  –  Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 2016    Prototype power car 41001 is the fore-runner of the enormously successful production Inter-City 125 fleet which is now celebrating 40 years in traffic. Great Western Railway are marking this historic milepost by hosting an open day at Bristol St.Philips Marsh depot, featuring a gathering of locomotives and power cars from operators far and wide, plus pioneer 41001 which will be a static exhibit.
