HSTs have been in operation on the East Coast Main Line since their introduction into service. The current operator of this route, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) operate a fleet of HSTs primarily based at their Craigentinny depot in Edinburgh. The LNER HST fleet operates from London Kings Cross right through to Inverness whilst also serving Lincoln, Hull, Leeds, Skipton, Harrogate and Aberdeen.
LNER took over the franchise in June 2018 on behalf of the Department for Transport, following the early termination of Virgin Trains East Coasts franchise agreement. At the present time, all LNER HST sets carry VTEC livery, with the Virgin branding being removed and replaced by LNER.
